Honestly this show really confuses the hell out of me sometimes, but that's what the show is supposed to do. Which is actually one of the reasons why I like this show. It's so different compared to other shows that I've watched. That being said, I was left pretty confused after the season one finale and wondered what happened on the Night of the hack and Tyrell. I assumed dead, until towards the end of the second season, but like Elliot, was wondering if he was real.
I feel like I can understand Tyrell now, after going through such great character development. It reminded me a bit of Jaime Lannister's journey back to King's Landing with Brienne of Tarth. What I think is funny is that I've gone from hating Tyrell, to hoping he doesn't get arrested. It's just amazing how there was so much character development, that was enough to make me like him, all in just one episode.
I like the Wallace Shawn cameo, during the questioning scene. It was good to see Wallace Shawn acting again. It was interesting and intense to watch. It starting showing Tyrell's character evolve a little as well as learning a little bit more about him.
This episode also provided a tragic backstory for Bobby Canavale's mysterious, yet interesting character, Irving that his wife took his kids and leave. What was sad was that he gave away his #1 Dad travel coffee cup. But apart from being a coffee cup collector, it showed that he met Tyrell and Elliot (Mr. Robot) on the night of the hack and he knew Cisco.
Overall this was another solid episode indeed. Despite it entirely being a flashback and didn't move the present day plot forward, this episode provided us with information we needed to know, making us look forward to next week episode. I can't wait.
